Pet Haven
Audience: New dog walker volunteers and employees at Pet Haven.
Responsibilities: Instructional design, action mapping, storyboarding.
Tools Used: Articulate Storyline 360. Vyond. Canva
The Problem
Pet Haven wants to onboard new volunteer dog walkers. One issue is that dog walkers don’t follow all the steps to take dogs in and out, causing safety incidents.
Pet Haven would like to reduce the number of safety incidents so that more people will volunteer at the shelter and more pets will be adopted.
The Solution
I created a presentation and scenario for volunteers to memorize and practice all the steps.
I also created a job aid to remind volunteers of the rules.
My Process
I used the ADDIE model to plan and create a practical learning experience. ADDIE comprises five steps: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation.
Action Map
I identified Pet Haven's overall goal of reducing the number of safety incidents. I also identified all the decisions and actions learners would need to take to walk a dog.
Text-Based Storyboard
Next, I created a text-based storyboard to identify choices and consequences for each step. During e-learning, learners are presented with a question and three choices that represent a step in the dog-walking process.
Visual Planning
Next, I designed the visuals. I created a mood board in Canva. The mood board included pictures representing the type of colors I wanted in the course. I used Canva to identify the colors in the photos.
I used Vyond to create the scenario. I put each of the colors in the background to match the look and feel of my mood board.
Interactive Prototype
Next, I created an interactive prototype in Articulate Storyline to test the course's functionality.
Full Development
Next, I developed the entire course. My Articulate Storyline skills were put to the test. I used a hotspot for the help button and created triggers for every choice.
I also practiced my creativity by creating a slip-leash demonstration with shapes.
I also liked experimenting with color schemes with Canva and Vyond.
Takeaways
After completing this project, I better understand the instructional design process. I practiced Action Mapping and Storyboarding. I look forward to creating more experiences.
